Finding your light...

The sun’s barely out but you’re ready to face the day. In that strange space between dark and light, the world is in a strange state of flux. Magic emerges and anything is possible. Hooded figures and nocturnal animals rush as shadow and light dance and switch places. Light changes, quickly, as things slip and slip towards morning. You thrive in the chaotic ephemera, in the promise of the unpredictable and the impossible. But the moment you live in is transient, and already fading. What will you do when the slow crawl of day’s reality sets in?

You can’t resist the soft, soothing call of sleep. If all day could be night, you would happily dream it away. Dreams are where ideas and possibilities run free, where you can paint the world on your terms and see it with stars in your eyes. You turn inwards and inwards, shunning everyone and everything that resides in the real world outside. Your heart will only keep on breaking if you feed it dreams of someone (or something) long gone. Your body will only sink deeper into sleep’s promise. Wake up, before it’s too late.

Afraid of the dark? It’s common. Keep the shadows at bay and the worries away. A day spent in the sun never hurt anyone- so you love the slow burn of summer. All is true and good in the light, right? The grass is swaying, a pale char starting to spread as the sun’s light intensifies. The devil on your shoulder would advise you to learn to embrace the dark, and not hide from the shadows in and around you. There is a depth there, and a power worth facing and embracing.

All good things must come to an end. The inevitability of the sun’s dive to horizon is so sweet and irresistible. The reds and oranges of goodbyes are so beautiful. Why bother with beginnings when the end is so unavoidable? Isn’t it easier to never try? The day is a cycle that turns and turns. There are beginnings not only in sunrise, but sprinkled throughout the day. Each phase of the sun, from Night to First Light to Day and Sunset holds something worth experiencing. Learn to embrace the life and death of day and you’ll enjoy the ride, as sure as tomorrow’s sun will rise.
